I am standing as an Independent Candidate for the Tasmanian Legislative Council seat of Launceston in the May elections.

I am proactive, believe in making a difference and achieving positive outcomes.

Launceston is a wonderful place to live. I would like to see the city grow to its full potential to enable our children to successfully live and raise their families here.

I was born in Launceston and have a long family allegiance to this great city. All of my children have attended school here. I am an active community member and I enjoy rowing on the Tamar River and keeping fit.

In the coming months I plan to meet many more members of the Launceston community and hear your key issues. I have taken long service leave from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) State Secretary role to enable me to do this.

My vision

Launceston needs a strong voice. I have a proven record of fighting for outcomes in the health care system and understanding community needs.

15 years of advocating for more than 8,000 Nursing, Midwifery and Health Care staff has proven that I can successfully negotiate with local, state and federal politicians.

Health Care

No one will fight harder for the Launceston General Hospital and I have been successful in leading recent campaigns to keep John L Grove beds open and to reopen 15 acute beds and reduce Emergency Department waiting times.

Education

Our economy needs our education pathways to be strong and I believe our school, VET sector and University systems play a vital role in improving educational outcomes and jobs in Launceston. It is important that we continue to invest in the sector. I have supported the continuing growth of the School of Health and its maintenance in Launceston.

Infrastructure

As an early morning rower on the Tamar I have experienced firsthand, the poor state of the Tamar water and sewage systems. Our city cannot wait another ten years for improvements.  A tripartite approach is needed to work together to implement a water catchment plan and urgently address the water and sewerage infrastructure issues.

Tourism

Launceston is ideally situated in central Tasmania to leverage off tourism and the increasing number of great events. We are on the cusp of an exciting period with many projects underway and innovation now being encouraged and rewarded. Unnecessary impediments need to be removed so that tourism can grow with ease.

I will fight to ensure a fair system for all and assist in protecting our citizens from increasing living costs that are hurting the average person.

I will always act in the best interests of those I represent. Thank you for considering me as your representative.

Development

The development projects which are underway will offer jobs and growth for our community. Sustainable development is essential to benefit our community  and we  need to continue to leverage off the economic growth of Tasmania.
